A short story about copying the competition...
An entrepreneur who makes widgets (let's call him "Tom") tries out some new stuff to get the word out about his widget business.
It gets traction.
Tom sells more widgets.
The business thrives.
Then Tom sees other widget-makers taking note of his method...
...and ripping it off completely.
And, for awhile, it works for everyone.
"Hey, what gives?!" Tom wonders.
But Tom doesn't sit around wallowing.
Tom is savvy.
He knows what worked yesterday to sell widgets won't work forever.
So while all the other widget-makers are focused on copying Tom's original widget-selling tactics, he starts experimenting and developing new, fresh ways to sell widgets.
Stuff no other widget-maker is doing.
Just like last time, he tries a bunch of stuff out until he finds something that works. And it works 100x better than his original method (the one all the other widget-makers are still copying).
As long as Tom keeps experimenting, he will always:
Stay ahead of the competition
Have control over his leads
Have marketing that makes him money
99% of businesses copy the "Tom" in their industry.
Don't be like them.
Be like Tom.
