The shape of a man’s body is largely irrelevant to the shape of his ideas when he is addressing a public in writing or on the radio or, for that matter, in smoke signals. But it is quite relevant on television. The grossness of a three-hundred-pound image, even a talking one, would easily overwhelm any logical or spiritual subtleties conveyed by speech. For on television, discourse is conducted largely through visual imagery, which is to say that television gives us a conversation in images, not words.

Read This If You Overthink
I tend to overthink things.
If you're like me, let me share a piece of advice a mentor once gave me:
"Keep it country simple."
This resonates with me because I live in the middle of the country and our culture is wrapped around agriculture. Even if we’ve never stepped foot on a farm. It’s all about establishing rhythms in your daily life and following them. Not blindly. But damn near close.
Farmers don’t think, “do the livestock need feeding today? What should I feed them? When should I feed them? I wonder if they’re enjoying the food we give them…”
Farmers don’t think, “should I plow the fields today? What should I plant? When should I plant? What model of tractor should I use…”
Farmers don’t think, “What time should I get up? When should I eat? What should I eat? When should I go to bed…”
No. They don’t do any of that.
“Country Simple” is, well…simple:
No frills
No extra steps
No woulda-coulda-shouldas
It’s a commitment to stop thinking and just create.
Take action.
Do something to get your mind out of thinking mode and into action mode.
So—to all my overthinkers…will you commit to “Country Simple” with me this week?
