Your Wisdom File
Do you have a “wisdom” file?
A few years back I was searching for a quote I’d heard at a conference. Once. Somewhere. Where? Didn’t have a clue.
Tried to Google it. No luck.
Tried to shuffle through random Word docs hoping to find it. Nope.
Tried to recreate it from memory. Disaster.
So I started a “wisdom” file in Evernote (I’m a Notion guy now and it’s a key piece in my entrepreneurial toolkit). The premise was simple: create an online database where I could send all the notes, quotes, frameworks, diagrams, images, and insights I come across in life.
Here’s how the process works:
Capture wisdom somewhere—a quote from a smart person, a Twitter thread, thinking framework, notes from a conference, etc.
Take a screen cap / grab a link / snap a photo and send it directly to my Wisdom database in Notion
Once a week, go through new items and add tags (visible in screen cap) and notes (not visible) for easy access and searchability later
Once a week go through and review 1-3 items from the Wisdom file
Whenever possible, take action on something I review
Get smarter by leveraging the compounded wisdom of others
It’s like my own personal Google (but without the creepy trackers). Encyclopedia Justinica. Ha! (And I promise my Wisdom file has more than just ADHD articles.)
